Organising my house and my life

Home

With another month quickly approaching I have decided to dedicate this month to cleaning and organising my house and my life. I will be planning out the month ahead with little tasks to do every single day to get my house organised.

So yes, there are a lot of organising and cleaning posts coming your way.

I will be organising everything from the tech in my life to my closet. Our house isn’t particularly a mess, but it’s far from perfect. My aim is for every single thing in our home to have a specific place.

As a family we are adopting the “touch it once” policy. What this means is that you try your best to touch things once and only once. For example, when you fetch your post, don’t put important bills and letters somewhere to file, file it immediately. Another example could be packing the dishes in the dishwasher, don’t put them on the counter for later, do it immediately (touch the dishes once and put them where they belong).

Another policy I want to try and adopt and try get my family to adopt too is the “5 minute rule”. If something takes 5 minutes or less to complete, do it now.

I’m hoping that adopting these two policies in my house tasks and cleaning won’t build up, which will create a nicer atmosphere for everyone and hopefully a cleaner, neater house overall.

We are also in the process of slightly re-decorating (mainly in the form of a fresh coat of paint). We have decided to add a pop of colour throughout the house. We started today by painting accent walls in our lounge and dining room/kitchen and by painting our bathrooms. Tomorrow we will be starting on the bedrooms.

Tomorrow I will also be planning my total clean up month schedule (starting with my actual planner). Wish me luck, it’s going to be a tough one.
