I have decided to do an interesting little experiment in order to see how important first impressions are when it comes to literature. In other words, judging a book by it’s cover.
I will walk into a book store this week and pick three random fiction novels to read.
I will then judge them, as I always do, by their covers (I will try not to do this before I have picked them), by their authors, by the back cover, and by the first page of the book. I will then pick the one I think I will enjoy the most.
I will tell you all about them and upload photo’s for all of you to judge them as well (by the 4 criteria I have mentioned).
I will then read all three books. Starting with what I think (by first impressions) is the best book to the worst. I will keep regular updates on how it’s going and will analyze them with regards to judging a book by it’s cover.
We will then see if judging a book by it’s cover works, or if it allows you to miss great stories you wouldn’t have read.
I can’t wait. This sounds like fun to me.
You are more than welcome to join in or even just keep an eye open on what I have to say. Feel free to have your say as well in the comments or by linking to this post if you decide to blog about your experiment too.
I want you to know though, that everyone has their preferred genre’s when it comes to fiction, and in order to still keep this experiment fun and enjoyable, I will be sticking to the genre’s I like most.
Here’s to a successful and busy week. Let the search begin.
