We all want to be more organized. And in our busy lives this is not always easy to do. Here are some simple steps to follow to help you organize your life.
-
Say no
Learn to say no. There is simply too little time in a day for you to do everything. So learn to be picky. Pick what you want to do. Pick what’s important to do and do that.
-
Do one thing at a time
Multitasking has its place but when it comes to important tasks then focus is important and you can’t focus while multitasking.
-
Simplify
Get rid of anything that complicates or clutters you life. This could refer to people, physical objects, and even tasks you need to do.
-
Baby steps
Don’t jump in and expect everything to be perfect. Start small by organizing piece by piece of your life.
-
Don’t be too hard on yourself
I can’t place enough emphasis on this point. We constantly break ourselves down and belittle out actions. You can only do your best every day and your best is good enough. You can’t be perfect all the time.
-
Find what works
Find things that work for you. Whether it’s your daily routine, your personal planner, or the food you eat. Everyone is different and you need to find what works for you and your family. And then, stick to it.
-
Delegate
Ask for help. Ask your friends, family, and coworkers to help you out when you need it. People are a lot more willing to help than we think.
-
Do it now
Follow the one touch rule (meaning: don’t put it away for later, do it now) and if a task takes less than 5 minutes to complete do it immediately.
-
Use a planner
Writing things down helps to get them out of your head, which in turn helps to clear your mind allowing you to rest easier knowing you won’t forget something.
-
Write lists
If you aren’t already one, then become a list writer. It’s amazing how helpful lists can be. I love the concept of a bullet journal and because of the lists and rules that make my life so much easier I have carried them over into my normal planner.
-
Be flexible
Everything doesn’t always go your way. And when they don’t it’s important to switch things up and carry on.
-
Work hard
Staying organized and focussed to achieve your goals is not easy. It’s a lot of hard work. But it is worth it.
-
Don’t forget what’s really important
Sometimes we just want to do one more thing or feel that we have to finish a task today and by doing so we miss precious time with our loved ones or relaxation time. Don’t do this to yourself.
You need to also learn to switch off sometimes and focus on what really matters as difficult as it may sometimes be.
