How to make it through a bad day, week, month, or year – you can do it!

We all have bad days, bad weeks, bad months. How we deal with these difficult times is what really shows character and what builds us up for the future.

I’m having one of those weeks where it just feels like nothing goes your way (despite all of the positive things that are happening too). I’m having one of those weeks where you feel like all you need is a cup of coffee, and then you burn your tongue. Yes, this happened today. It’s only Tuesday and yet, I feel like my constant headache has been here for way longer than two days. This week feels like every day is a Monday.

I hope that this post makes you feel a little bit better about your week. And if you’re also having a crappy week then know that you are not alone!

So, despite this horrible week I am picking myself up and thinking of how i’m going to get through this week with anything other than coffee (scratch that, coffee burnt my tongue) and wine. I have made a list, which if ever your’e having a similar week you can come back and read this list again. I hope at some point it will help you.

  1. Stay Positive

Yes, i had to throw this one in there, because it’s true if you’re not positive things will just keep spiralling downwards and to pull yourself out of this hole will become increasingly more difficult.

“Life is not the way it’s supposed to be, it’s the way it is. The way you cope is what makes the difference.” – Virginia Satir

  2. Hold on to the vision you have not what is happening

Keep focus on your original vision and don’t lose hope. What’s happening now will pass and then your vision will remain. This too shall pass.

  3. Set small goals

Focus on 3 small goals to complete every day. This way you will get the satisfaction of still crossing items off your to-do list. Even if you take one big task and break it up into smaller tasks to complete. that feeling of crossing things off and getting shit done is super important and that feeling helps you to carry on.

  4. Focus on positive upcoming events in the week to come

Don’t focus on all the horrible things you have to do. Focus on that dance class you’re attending in a few days time, or the French lesson you’ll be going to. Focus on weekend plans with your friends and family. If you don’t have anything to look forward to, I suggest you give yourself something to look forward to. Make plans now.

  5. Turn this difficult time into a learning experience

Why are you here? What can you do to avoid getting to the same place again?

“Facing difficulties is inevitable, learning from them is optional” – John Maxwell

  6. Keep in mind all the things you are grateful for

The things you are grateful for are always good things that are in your life so shining a light onto these things will help you realise that what’s going on at the moment, in the greater scheme of things, is not so bad.

  7. Focus on what you can control, not what you can’t control

Some things in life can’t be controlled and focussing your energy onto these things is a waste of time and it will exhaust you because no matter how hard you try they can’t be changed. So, rather focus on the things you can control.

  8. Be kind to yourself

In difficult times we blame ourselves so much. Don’t get me wrong i’m not saying shift blame. If you are to blame for something own up to it, accept it, move on. What I am saying is don’t be too hard on yourself. You are your closest ally at this point and you need someone on your team if your’e up against the world.

  9. Forgive and move on

Forgive those that caused difficult times, forgive yourself for mistakes. Move on. There is no use in focussing on passed details, rather get passed them, focus on the future, and put everything else behind you.

Remember that we are all perfectly imperfect. You are only human. You are allowed to make mistakes. You are allowed to have a bad day. How we recover from these mistakes, and these bad days is what truly defines us. So pick yourself up and show the world that you are worth it. Worth every thought, every bother, every dream, and every reality.

You are either your biggest fan or your biggest enemy. It’s your choice, so choose to be your biggest fan!
